Donald Trump’s US travel ban heads to a road block

February 4, 2017 0 Comments

US President Donald Trump’s nationwide travel ban gets a temporary halt ordered by a federal judge in Seattle. It was a complaint filed by Washington attorney general Bob Ferguson that led to this nationwide restraining order. The order was released by the District Judge James Robart. The order will remain valid nationwide, pending a full review of the complaint.

Several Federal Judges had acted against the ban since it came into effect, but it has been the latest ruling by James Robart that has furthest reaching order so far. This ruling was made after Ferguson filed a suit to invalidate key provisions of Trump’s executive order, which bans Syrian refugees indefinitely and blocks citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen from entering to the US for 90 days. Refugees from other than Syria are banned from entry for 120 days.

“The Constitution prevailed today” Ferguson commented after the ruling.”No one is above the law-not even the President”. Washington governor Jay Inslee said the decision was a “tremendous victory” and said that, war against trump’s executive order is not over. Ferguson commented that the President’s ban violated the constitutional rights of immigrants and their families as it specifically targets Muslims.
