1 June 1896 – Thomas A Edison’s Voting Machine Patented

At that point of time in history, having a patent to a Voting Machine was very much in demand and Edison beat out his competitors and was issued an official US copyright on his device on 1 June 1869. Unfortunately, the device was a little bit too ahead for its time and people were unable to appreciate it and it was only in 1881 when a voting machine invented by Anthony Beranek was patented that such a device was approved for use in American general election. Edison’s design remained unused but this remained as Edison’s first patented invention.

1 June 1938 – Superman appears for the first time

Appearing for the first time in Action Comics (dated 1 June 1938), Superman was created by two high school students Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Later going on to become a worldwide phenomenon, this marked the Superman’s introduction to the world. This first issue known as Action Comic #1 later went onto be sold as a collectible in 2014, collecting more than $3 million, the only comic book to be sold at such a high price.

1 June 1972 – ISRO brought under Department of Space

Space Commission and Department of Space was set up on 1 June 1972 and the Indian Space Research Organisation was brought under this Department of Space as well on the same date. Department of Space is an Indian government department responsible for the administration of the Indian Space Program. ISRO is now the primary research and development wing of Department of Space.
