Election 2017 : Modi’s Biggest Test

After the ban of high-value notes last year, Modi is set to face his next biggest test which is the regional elections. Millions of Indians will go to the polling booths for the regional elections. The outcome of this election is by far the biggest test the Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP) has to face after the ban of 5oo and 1000 rupee notes. Five states will be electing new governments over the next five weeks, with the elections starting in Northern Punjab and Goa in the west.
The strongest test for Modi is from Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP had a huge win in the 2014 general elections. Modi’s bold move to ban the high value notes was to remove the black money and stop the widespread tax evasions, which also affected the growth causing difficulty to millions of Indian who lack access to formal banking. The state elections are important as it sends the highest number of MPs to the upper house of the parliament, where the BJP is currently lacking majority.
