Kerala with 1064 colleges has a share of 3% of all colleges in India and ranks 12th on total number of colleges in any state in India. In terms of access, Kerala has a high concentration among all states with 34 colleges per lakh population as compared to the all India average of 25 colleges per lakh population
There has been tremendous growth in educational facilities at all levels of education in Kerala during the last 50 years. The private and public sectors together played significant role in attaining the present level and their contribution to the field are remarkable. In this context the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will organize the “CII Education Summit 2017 on 26 & 27 May 2017 in Kochi. The theme of this year’s summit is ‘Higher Education & Skilling: Quality, Governance & Innovation’.
The summit will feature sessions from eminentpanellists including Dr.ShashiTharoor, Member of Parliament, Government of India, T P Srinivasan, the former Ambassador of India to the United Nations, Prof. G Raghuram, the director of Indian Institute of Management (IIM-B), Kumara Guru D N V, the director of External Relations and Human Resources, Indian School of Business and SubratoBagchi, the co-founder of Mindtree, among others.
CII Education Summit 2017 is trying to identify the major concerns and come out with a possible roadmap to strengthen the Educational sector in the state. The conclave will cover the following areas which are of immense relevance to the sector:

- Higher Education: Quality & Innovation
- Skilling & National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF)
- Governance in Higher Education
- Establishing and Running Incubation Centres
- Education on par with Industry Expectations
