World Menstruation Hygiene Day was observed around the world on May 28, and on this occasion Mumbai’s Versova MLA Bharti Lavekar launched India’s first digital bank for sanitary pads with the aim to to make sanitary pads available to everyone. This digital bank will also reach out to tribals and zilla parishad schools. “The government is already providing them pads free of cost for 10 months, excluding two months of vacations. But if rural schools register with us, we will provide pads for the other two months too,” Lavekar said.

The online portal for TEE Foundation will be providing the platform to avail sanitary pads as per demand and also to donate to the cause. TEE Foundation took up this initiative to bridge the gap between donors and the needy.

“Donors can donate either money or sanitary pads. A packet of 10 pads cost seven rupees. The foundation will make sure it reaches those in need. We also have to overcome the taboo of menstruation,” said Lavekar.

The launch of the event was attended by Maharashtra CM’s wife Amruta Fadnavis and veteran actress Zeenat Aman.
