If there is a worthwhile journey which we could undertake during our lifetime, I would say, it would be an exploration of our elusive sense of self. That being said, it could also probably be the most difficult one. We, with our vulnerabilities, our triumphs, our trysts, our liberations, our insights and our wisdom try to weave a journey which we want. We look for people and purposes that could join our journey either beside or as a leader or a follower. We may try, we may fall, we may get hurt, we may fail but we get up and continue the journey.

Every step we take could lead us to eternity or to the dungeons of a diminishing self-worth. We stumble at times and we fly at times. The two sides of our being –the heart and the head mostly leave us in a battle or baffle. The great philosopher, Plato in his Phaedrus dialogue says that our intellect is a charioteer, pulled by one horse of noble passion while trying to whip his unruly companion into line. In reality, it’s the horses who are deciding the chariot’s direction, while we, the charioteer remain naïve imagining that we are in control. The real charm is in taming the wild horses to be in tandem rather than trying to whip the unruly one.

We desire for things that we think could give pleasure and after sometime realise that they don’t and our lust ends there. And where lust ends, wisdom begins. Some of us become bitter out of this wisdom while the blessed ones become better. The better ones go on to lead a fulfilled life which we all aspire for. This self-learning could be alternately replaced by others’ learning which you can today gather with seamless ease. We can today learn from the existing plethora of experiences shared by such blessed ones whom we call “experts” in any field at the click of a button. Welcome to the era of information explosion and artificial intelligence which could help you in this journey of life.

Concluding, I would like to go back to my philosophical beginning about the journey of life. Those lines reflect my own life and probably most of ours. Taming our mind, identifying our true self and finding a meaning for our existence are the ultimate goals that any human soul undertakes in his/ her journey. And the more we explore, the deeper it goes.
